Recently wrapped shooting on “The Lindbergh Babiez” a project I wrote with Matt Harkins that I am super excited about. We’re submitting it as a pilot for the NYTVF. That’s not what this is about though. This marks my second project (the 1st one you haven’t seen yet cause I’m gonna edit it any day now, honest) that I was lucky enough to land Lou Gonzalez (Boombox, Mannequin Room, UCB Digital) as my director.
Guys, he is just a complete dream director and you should be hiring him for your projects and here are just a few reasons why.
-He has top of the line equipment and like, all of it, he has everything. More importantly he knows how to use it. You might wanna shoot a sketch and think oh the quality won’t matter too much cause its so funny and I’m so talented and that’s all that matters. Then you see how your footage turns out when working with the real deal and you’re just gobsmacked. Cause it’s beautiful and looks like a beautiful movie from Hollywood and the investment returns 10-fold because you have something that you would feel confident linking to anyone. Web stuff is our calling card and it’s just worth it.
-He’s a true artist and a perfectionist but he knows how to get shit done. Lou is like a one-man band. He plans gorgeous interesting shots and makes them happen. I firmly believe he would not put his name on something that he doesn’t know in his heart is the shit, and that he gave everything he had to.
-He’s a brilliant comedian (we all know this already) but he makes things fucking funnier. And he knows how to work with actors, especially improvisers. He knows what to say to coach a jaw-dropping performance. And he does not give up.
-He’s fucking fun. Production is not fun it takes forever and you get sleepy and cranky and sweaty and everyone had forgotten how annoying video stuff is so if you gotta spend 2-3 grueling 10 hour days with someone as your coach/director it should be someone who is delightful.
(He also shoots live shows (Maude/spanks) with two cameras AND external audio and the he syncs it all together and how great is that!)
